of Tanjore Raghavendra Swamy Brindavana History
“Shri Venkatanatha” Nearly 400 years ago, born at Bhuvanagiri near Chidambaram and become a scholar at Kumbakonam. His sanyasa ordination took place at Vadavaru River bank of Thanjavur in 1621, in the presence of “Shri Raghunatha Bhoopal” a Nayaka King and from then on, he is known as “Shri Raghavendra Theertha”. Relieving the poverty in Tanjore, he did Thapas for 12 years, where this Brindavana is located. To spread the benefit of his Thapas, his divine grace and blessings, he travelled around the Country.
Soon after he left Tanjore, Tanjore king faced hard times. On hearing his request Shri Raghavendra blessed him saying “Construct a Brindavana at the place where I did my Thapas, I will live there with my “SUKSHMA SHAREERA” and bless you all”. Shri Raghavendra himself appeared in the form of a Five Headed Serpent and helped to identify the place to build the Brindavana. As directed by Sri Raghavendra Swamy, the construction had been done. Since Shri Raghavendra Swamy said that he resides in this Brindavana. Mruthika Prathishta (the holy sand consecration) is Not done here. The Serpent which helped in identifying the place had become a stone sculpture and it’s still in the bottom of this Brindavana.
The Brindavana roof top is kept open and Raghavendra Swamy is experiencing all the natural phenomenons such as scorching Sun, rain, storm and dew as he faced them during his Thapas. It is considered that He is still doing his thapas here and hence Sanyasa pooja Kramas are only followed. So the Brindavana is never touched after the pooja timings.
Nayaka King handed over this Brindavana to the ancestors of the present trustee Shri Vijendran Kabijan, nearly 10 generations before and it is maintained properly by them with utmost dedication. The land given during 18th century to the present trustee’s grandfather Shri Poornacharakrishnachar, is being used as the kitchen and dining hall. Utensils for this were provided and registered in the period of British Government by Tanjore collector in 1878. In the year 1969, as per the abolition and conversion into Ryotwari act (26 Act 1963) of Tamilnadu Government, the Brindavana and its surrounding places given by Nayaka king had been settled to Shri Dhevachariar , present trustee’s father. Now this Brindavana is maintained under the perfect management and guidance of the present trustee Shri Vijendran Kabijan.
The Poojas performed here such as archana and abhisheka are not charged. Shri Raghavendra’s pooja prasadhas such as Theertha, Akshatha, Flowers and Sugar candy are provided to the devotees under the self-responsibility of the trustee. Daily & auspicious day pooja, Abhisheka and Annadhana are performed with the help of the devotees under the management of trustee.

தஞ்சை ராகவேந்திர சுவாமி பிருந்தாவனம் வரலாறு
சுமார் 400 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் சிதம்பரம் அருகில் உள்ள புவனகிரியில் பிறந்து கும்பகோணத்தில் சகலகலா வல்லவராக தேர்ச்சி பெற்ற "ஸ்ரீவேங்கடநாதன்" 1621-ம் ஆண்டு தஞ்சை நகரத்தில் வடவாற்றங்கரையில் சன்னியாச தீட்சைப் பெற்று வேதாந்த சாம்ராஜ்ய பட்டாபிஷேகம் ஸ்ரீ ரகுநாத பூபால் என்ற நாயக்க மன்னர் முன்னிலையில் நடை பெற்று "ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரர்" என்ற பெயருடன் தஞ்சையில் ஏற்பட்ட வறுமையை போக்கி சுமார் 12 ஆண்டுகள் இந்த பிருந்தாவனம் அமைத்துள்ள இடத்தில் தவம் புரிகிறார். தவத்தின் மூலம் கிடைத்த வலிமையை மற்ற தேசங்களில் மக்களுக்கும் அளிக்கும் பொருட்டு தேசசஞ்சாரம் புறப்படுகிறார். ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரர் தஞ்சையை விட்டு புறப்பட்ட சில காலங்களிலேயே தஞ்சை மன்னருக்கு அவரின் பிரிவால் சில இன்னல்கள் ஏற்படுகின்றன. எனவே ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரர் என்றென்றும் தஞ்சை மண்ணிலேயே தன்னுடன் வசிக்க வேண்டும் என பிரார்த்தனை செய்கிறார்.அரசரின் வேண்டுகோளை செவிமேடுத்த ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரர் “நான் 12 ஆண்டுகள் தவம் செய்த இடத்தில் பிருந்தாவனம் அமையுங்கள். நான் அங்கு என் சூட்சம் சரிரத்தால் என்றென்றும் வாழ்ந்து தஞ்சைக்கு அருள்புரிவேன்” என்று வரமளிக்கிறார். மேலும் தான் தவம் செய்த இடத்தை 5 தலை நாகவடிவில் தோன்றி அரசருக்கு சுட்டிகாட்டி அந்த இடத்தில் நாயக்க மன்னரால் இந்த பிருந்தாவனம் நிறுவப்பட்டது. இங்கு தானே வசிப்பதாக ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரர் கூறிய காரணத்தால் இந்த பிருந்தாவனத்தில் ம்ருத்திகை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்படவில்லை. பிருந்தாவனம் இடத்தை சுட்டி காட்ட வந்த பாம்பு சிலையாக மாறி இன்றும் பிருந்தாவனத்தின் அடிப்பாகத்தில் ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரரின் பீடமாக காட்சியளிக்கிறது.
ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரர் தவம் செய்கிற பொழுது எப்படி வாழ்ந்தாரோ அதுபோலவே இன்றும் மழை , வெய்யில் , காற்று , பனி அனைத்தும் பிருந்தாவனத்தில் படுவதற்காக பிருந்தாவனத்தின் மேற்புறம் திறந்தவெளியாக உள்ளது , அவர் இன்றும் இங்கு தவத்தில் இருப்பதாகவே கருதப்பட்டு சந்நியாசிகளுக்கான பூஜைக்ரமமே இங்கு நடைபெற்று வருகிறது . எனவே பூஜை காலத்திற்கு பிறகு மற்ற நேரங்களில் பிருந்தாவனத்தை தொடுவது கிடையாது.
இந்த பிருந்தாவனம் நாயக்க அரசரால் தற்போதைய பரம்பரை டிரஷ்டியான ஸ்ரீ விஜேந்திரன்கபிஜன் அவர்களின் முன்னோர்களிடம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்டு, சுமார் 10 தலைமுறைகளுக்கும் மேலாக அவர்களால் சீரிய முறையில் பராமரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. கடந்த 18 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் தற்போதைய பரம்பரை டிரஷ்டியின் பாட்டனாரான ஸ்ரீ பூர்ணாச்சார் கிருஷ்ணாச்சாருக்கு சில கணவான்களால் தானமாக வழங்கப்பட்ட இடம் இப்போது சமையல் மற்றும் சாப்பாடு கூடமாக மாற்றப்பட்டு உபயோகிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இதற்கான பத்திரங்கள் சுமார் 1878-ஆம் ஆண்டு தஞ்சை மாவட்ட ஆட்சித்தலைவரால் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. மேலும் நாயக்க அரசரால் வழங்கப்பட்ட பிருந்தாவனமும் அதனை சுற்றியுள்ள பகுதிகளும் தற்போதைய பரம்பரை டிரஸ்டியான தகப்பனார் ஸ்ரீ தேவாச்சாரியார் அவர்களுக்கு 1969-ம் ஆண்டு தமிழக அரசின் இனாம் ஒழிப்பு சட்டம் (Act 26 of 1963) படி தமிழக அரசினால் செட்டில்மென்ட் செய்து வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தற்போது இந்த பிருந்தாவனம் பரம்பரை டிரஸ்டியான ஸ்ரீ விஜேந்திரன்கபிஜன் அவர்களின் செம்மையான வழி நடத்துதலில் பராமரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
இங்கு நடத்தப்படும் அர்ச்சனை, அபிஷேகம் மற்றும் அனைத்து பூஜைகளுக்கும் எந்தவித கட்டணமும் வசூலிக்கப்படுவதில்லை. இங்கு வரும் அனைத்து பக்தர்களுக்கும் ஸ்ரீ ராகவேந்திரரின் பூஜை பிரசாதங்களான தீர்த்தம், அட்சதை, பூ மற்றும் கல்கண்டு போன்றவையும் பரம்பரை டிரஸ்டி அவர்கள் தனது சொந்த பொறுப்பில் வழங்கி வருகிறார். தினப்படி பூஜைகள் மற்றும் விசேஷ நாட்களில் பக்தர்களின் உதவியுடன் விசேஷ அபிஷேகம் மற்றும் அன்னதானங்கள் பரம்பரை டிரஸ்டி அவர்களின் பொறுப்பில் நடத்தப்படுகிறது.
